Striking pair of Antique porcelain and gold leaf decorative trinket, pill or jewelry boxes / dishes of Satsuma ware (Satsuma 薩广 Yaki 焼) from the Dai Nippon/ Great Japan period (marked 大日本) and painted by Gyokushu (玉秀 Ga 画).

The Shimazu crest on top (circle with cross) : Most old and authentic pieces of Satsumaware will have the Shimazu family crest on, usually at the top of the marking (the red circle with the cross in). This mark shows that the pottery was made under the rule of the Shimazu clan and is a good way of determining if the item is of value.
