Chair by Pagholz Model 1507, Germany, 1950's

Seat formed for comfort with solid iron legs, three bolts attach the chair to the frame made out of fiberglass material that looks like rosewood. The seat is based on ergonomic and
orthopedic principles and uses a technique from aircraft construction
to create this radically new moulded-wood chair, produced from beechwood
veneers soaked in phenolic resins and fused under high temperature and
pressure. This results in a seat shell made of wood, yet offering the
beneficial qualities of plastic.

    About Mathieu Mategot (1910-2001)
Born and educated in Budapest, furniture and tapestry designer Mathieu Mategot moved to France in the early 1930s, where he worked as a window dresser and women’s clothing designer. He learned metalworking techniques as a prisoner of war in the 1940s, and upon his release began designing furniture, pioneering many of what we now identify as midcentury design tropes, like metal-mounted rattan, steel tubing, and perforated sheet metal. By the 1970s, Mategot returned to producing tapestries, many of which evoke Abstract Expressionist paintings.
